Aquaponics, clean water, and solar initiatives supporting HCO’s work with children, families, and the surrounding community.
Local food, clean water, and reliable energy strengthen the foundations of HCO’s care for children and families in Kenya.
HCO’s aquaponics initiative in Kenya.
Operating & expanding
HCO’s growing aquaponics project brings fish farming and vegetable production together, helping Haven of Hope build a dependable source of fresh food.
As it expands, the system can lower food expenses, offer practical training, and create opportunities to sell fish and produce. Each step supports a stronger future for the children, families, and community HCO serves.
Fundraising
HCO is fundraising for a reverse osmosis system to treat borehole water with high fluoride levels, making it suitable for drinking at Haven of Hope.
The project would provide a reliable supply for the compound and create the opportunity for a community water kiosk, helping neighbors access affordable, treated water. It connects an essential daily need with HCO’s wider vision for lasting community impact.

Proposed solar system for HCO Kenya.
Planned project
HCO’s planned solar project would put Kenya’s sunshine to work at Haven of Hope, reducing electricity expenses and supporting the baby center’s daily operations.
The system is also intended to power the borehole and clean-water initiative, along with aquaponics and the greenhouse. By connecting these projects, solar can help lower ongoing costs and preserve more resources for HCO’s mission.

Operating & expanding

At Haven of Hope, HCO is bringing fish and vegetable production together to grow fresh food and reduce food expenses.
As the system expands, it can supply meals, provide practical learning, and eventually create income through fish and produce sales. These opportunities support the ministry’s long-term work with children and families.
Planned solar power would also support aquaponics and greenhouse operations, helping connect food production with lower ongoing energy costs.
Fundraising

Concept rendering of the proposed system.
HCO’s borehole water contains high levels of fluoride that make it unsuitable for drinking. The proposed reverse osmosis system would treat this water and provide a dependable drinking-water supply for the compound.
The project also creates the opportunity for a community water kiosk, making treated water available to neighbors at an affordable cost. It is designed to connect the needs of children in HCO’s care with practical support for the surrounding community.
Planned solar power would support the borehole and treatment system as part of the wider sustainability initiative.
Planned project

Concept rendering of the proposed system.
Kenya’s abundant sunshine offers HCO an opportunity to reduce one of its largest recurring expenses: electricity. The planned solar system would support the baby center’s daily power needs while helping lower operating costs.
Solar is also intended to power the borehole and clean-water initiative, plus aquaponics and the greenhouse. These connected systems can help HCO manage essential resources more efficiently and strengthen Haven of Hope for the future.
Lower recurring costs mean more resources can support HCO’s continuing mission with children, families, and the wider community.
