For years, the word orphanage has been linked with safety and compassion — a place where vulnerable children could find food, care, and protection. And while those intentions are good, around the world people are beginning to see what we’ve known all along: children grow best in families.
At His Cherished Ones, this belief has guided every decision from the very beginning. Family isn’t a new idea for us — it’s our foundation.
The Heart of the Matter
Children need more than care — they need connection. They need to be known, loved, and rooted in belonging. That’s something an institution, no matter how well-intentioned, can’t replace.
Research, experience, and the stories we see every day all point to the same truth:
The best place for a child to grow is within the love and stability of a family.
That’s why our work begins, not with building more walls, but with building bridges — bridges between a child and their family, between poverty and stability, between despair and hope.
From the Beginning, Family Has Been Our Model
When a baby enters our care, our goal is already in sight: home. We immediately begin learning their story and searching for family connections. If there are barriers that led to separation — poverty, stigma, or lack of support — we look for ways to come alongside that family and remove them.
Every step is taken with one prayer in mind: that this child would be restored to family and have the chance to grow up surrounded by love.
At HCO, family-based care isn’t the next big idea. It’s the way we’ve always cared — because it’s the way God designed it.
